Physical exercise allows children to be creative, cooperative and competitive and to face up to diverse challenges both as individuals and in groups. Being active helps ease anxiety, tension and stress which, in turn, helps with improved attention in class.

At Snaresbrook Primary School we know how blessed we are to have such an open green space. Our school field is situated at the back of our school, near our Avon Way entrance. The field is utilised in many ways; daily playtimes, after school clubs and sporting events as well as a resource to support specialist teaching such as orienteering and our O.W.L programme (Outdoor Woodland Learning).

Our favourite use of the field is when we get to open our doors and invite our families in for community events such as a sports day, summer fair or a school concert.

Ceiling Track Hoists provide advantages for both carers and users. Allowing challenging physical activities to be an everyday part of life.

As well as providing support to our students, a ceiling track hoist also benefits the teachers and support staff. A useful utility for the school, it makes the teachers’s job easier by supporting with the teaching of the pupil. Allowing movement and activities in areas of the classroom which would otherwise not be accessible.

Besides this, a ceiling track hoist can also support teachers and support staff with other types of therapies and treatments. For instance, they can be a perfect solution for patients who suffer from disabilities where muscles can stiffen and cause discomfort. Using a hoist allows a teacher better access to their legs and joints, and help them better exercise and can help to relieve any discomfort they may have.

Ceiling track hoists are vital to Newbridge School to help provide high quality care which is both safe and comfortable for people with disabilities.

The sensory room not only has visual activities but also has activities which help to focus the student and allows them to explore through the medium of touch.

The sensory wall also helps the following:

• Helps build stronger nerve connections in the brain.
It leads to well-developed fine motor skills for hand-eye coordination.
It improves memory when the activity is repeated.
Supports pupils to self-regulate and promotes good mental health and wellbeing.
Gives the pupil a level of independence.

UV and sensory lights are ideal for helping our students to develop their visual processing, improve their tracking and develop their hand-eye co-ordination.

Our sensory room is designed to be entertaining, immersive and relaxing for our students. Many of the objects in the sensory room reflect UV lighting which the children love playing with.

Studies have shown that humans, in general, can have their mood influenced by changes in lighting, this is especially prominent with our students. Lights with mellow colours, like blue, can help a child relax and become more creative and the vibrant colours enthral and excite the children.

Ceiling Track Hoists provide advantages for both carers and users. Allowing challenging physical activities to be a part of everyday life.

As well as providing support to our students, a ceiling track hoist also benefits the teachers and support staff. A useful utility for the school, it makes the teachers’s job easier by supporting with the teaching of the pupil, allowing movement and activities in areas of the classroom which would otherwise not be accessible.

Besides this, a ceiling track hoist can also support teachers and support staff with other types of therapies and treatments. For instance, they can be a perfect solution for students who suffer from disabilities where muscles can stiffen and cause discomfort. Using a hoist allows a teacher better access to their legs and joints and helps them exercise and can also help to relieve any discomfort they may have.

Ceiling track hoists are vital to Newbridge School to help provide high quality care which is both safe and comfortable for our pupils.

TUFF TRAYS

Tuff Trays are used within the school in a number of ways. One of the ways is for sensory play. They are easy to clean and their raised sides contain most of the mess too.

At Newbridge School, Sensory Play is recognised as one of the most important methods of educating our students and it plays a crucial part in their development. Sensory Play includes any activity that will stimulate any one or all of a child’s five senses, “Seeing”, “hearing”, “touch”, “taste” and “smell”.

Research has shown that Sensory Play has many benefits:

It will help to improve handwriting.
• Develops and enhancee memory and problem solving skills.
• Helps children to develop their speech.
• Improves social interaction and aids children in engaging with their peers.
Teaches sensory attributes and how to react to them, for example whether something is too hot or too cold.
• Most of all it is a brilliant way of calming an anxious child.

AREA

Nursery pupils use early math skills within their daily routines through activities which help to make sense of numbers, time, patterns and shapes.

Although maths happens all around the Nursery including in the sand, water, malleable and construction areas, the dedicated maths area offers children an opportunity to practise and consolidate the skills that they have been taught during adult led sessions.

Resources that are used during taught sessions are mirrored in maths area and children are encouraged to recreate previously taught learning and explore shape, measure and number using exciting and stimulating resources.

There are 5 fundemental elements of life which the majority of us often take for granted. They are our eyesight, our hearing and the ability to touch, smell and taste.

Each of us will experience them in slightly differing ways and some of our pupils of course suffer additional challenges or certain limitations to one or more sense. We all go through life engaging with the world in large part through our senses. At Newbridge School we use a number of activities used to engage our pupils, many aimed at helping them experiment with the key attributes associated with the five predominant senses. This type of play helps them to grow and develop skills they will use both at home and in educational environments.

Our sensory trays give our pupils a hands-on, safe environment to explore these senses using colourful, fun and exciting materials. Some of the benefits of this type of play are:
• Sensory play builds nerve connections within the developing brain’s neural pathways
• Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction
• Sensory play aids in developing and enhancing memory function
• Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated pupil
• Sensory play helps children learn vitally important sensory attributes. Is something safe to touch? Is it sticky? Is it cold? Is the item rough or smooth?

WIRE
SCULPTURES

Our wonderful wire sculptures were created by Year 6 children with the support of local artist Darcy Turner.

Under his instruction, the children learned how to cut, shape and join wire to make wonderful 3D forms. They worked in groups building the various animal parts, eventually joining them together.

Popular children’s books were used as a stimulus to create them and the wire and tin words and phrases which cover the playground library.

OUR TEACHERS USE SMARTBOARDS TO ENSURE LESSONS ARE INTERACTIVE AND TO CAPTIVATE THE PUPILS ATTENTION AND INTEREST.

Some of the main features are:

Multitouch experience: Two users can simultaneously write, perform mouse functions, erase, and manipulate and move objects on the interactive whiteboard surface.

Object awareness: The screen uses DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology to identify when a user switches between a finger, pen and eraser. A user can also write with a pen, erase with a palm and move objects with a finger, without having to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray, using simple, intuitive hand and finger gestures to toss, rotate or zoom in on objects and interact within SMART Notebook software.

SMART Notebook software: SMART Notebook sets the standard for creating, delivering and managing interactive lessons within a single application. It puts all of the instructional materials at our fingertips and allows us to save any notes or content that is written during the lesson to share with students later on. A powerful and easy-to-use application, SMART Notebook software enables us to readily deliver interactive lessons that keep our students engaged and interested

Multiuser Pen Tray: Pick up one of the pens or the eraser and the Pen Tray automatically detects which tool you've selected. Buttons on the Pen Tray select the colour and activate the On-Screen Keyboard, right-click and help functions.

Modular design: The Pen Tray includes two wings on the side that allow you to add accessories, such as SMART projector controls

Lockable pen option: When we hold down a pen colour button on the Pen Tray until the light flashes then the lockable pen option will lock the interactive whiteboard into pen mode, so you can use any device and it will act as a pen. Early years education students and students with additional learning needs can use objects, such as tennis balls, to write on the surface

SMART Ink: Smart Ink smoothes out the appearance of the digital ink, which improves the legibility of the handwriting as we write over applications, websites and videos. The ink becomes an object which can moved and manipulate

Save function: We can capture our pupilswork to SMART Notebook collaborative learning software as a screen shot that you can edit, or save your notes directly into several software applications, including Microsoft Windows versions of PowerPoint, Word and Excel, as well as AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat

The terrace is located on the first floor and is direcly connected to Class 11. With safety flooring and equipment to play on it's an area that the children feel both independent and safe.

This space is used for break times, one-on-one exercise and as a general exercise area for the school. There is a trampoline, bicycles and equipment which can be set up in different configurations to create challenging and fun obstacle courses.

The playground is a natural sun trap and is overlooked by trees. Other features include rubber safety flooring which gives the students the added reasurrance whilst out playing in that area.

The equipment is set up to encourage movement, problem solving skills and the area, in general, gives the opportunity for the pupils to socialise with their peers.

Our Sensory Room is an extremely important area within our school for a number of reasons. It also happens to be one of the most loved by the pupils.

Sensory rooms have a number of benefits for children with a wide range of learning and behavioural needs. They help to develop the students visual, auditory and tactile processing, as well as fine and gross motor skills. Additionally the sensory room helps to calm and comfort the pupils, assisting them to self-regulate their behaviours.

Other benefits include:
Increased concentration and focus
Heightened awareness and improve alertness
Improved coordination and motor development
Promotes cognitive development by increased brain function
Improves and encourages creativity
Develops a sense of cause and effect
Develops language skills
Promote social interactions
Promotes mental and physical relaxation
Encouragea pupils to explore their environment
Most of all we hope they enjoy themselves
